Â If there is too much, bears might make this spot part of their rounds knowing that campers leave food behind meaning they could show up when you are there.Generally speaking, it"s best to cook your food and eat it as far away from your sleeping spots as possible. Â The reason is that the smells can attract bears to that area. Â The further away you cook, the further away the bears are going to be if they happen upon the area you are camping at.
Always put away your food once you are done with it. Â With vehicles you can store the food away in coolers to keep the smells away. Â The traditional approach is to make what"s called a bear bag. Â This is a bag that you keep your food in hung from a tree making it very hard for any bear to actually get to it.
Get some information about the bear activity of the place you are planning on camping at. Â There are certain months of the year that there will be more activity. Â To limit exposure, camp during the times of the year there are less bear problems. Â At times there will be a few problem bears in the area where there may have been recent incidents. Â Be sure to find out if this is happening so that you know what to look out for.
