The official name of the Philippines has changed several times during the country history. In the Philippine Revolution, Congress proclaimed the Malolos Republic in the Philippines and the Philippines. In the period of the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American War until the Commonwealth period, the colonial American countries, known as the Philippine Islands, a Spanish translation of the name. During the American stage name Philippines began to appear, and since then has become the common name of the country.
