Tour To Ladakh Monasteries: Depicting Colours Of Ladakh Tourism
Ladakh is the home of diverse monasteries. Apart from the beauty of the undulating landscapes, these ancient monasteries are the biggest attraction of the "Little Tibet". Various Buddhist inscriptions and Chortens can be seen inscribed along the walls bordering Ladakh. Most of the monasteries/gompas are located over the snow covered peaks that reach out to the azure skies. While reaching such high places, you can actually feel the sound of the wheezing winds rushing past you. Local villagers wander the landscapes with huge herds of goats. These spectacular monasteries are inhabited by Buddhist monks and nuns, where they live, study and practice their religion. The best part with these religious places is that they have a rare and beautiful collection of Buddhist Thangka paintings, art and artifacts. Tourists can also visit and admire the architecture and art collections in these gompas. A few major and most beautiful gompas/monasteries in Ladakh are:

You need to take off your shoes before entering the prayer area, and should wear clothes that cover your limbs. Drinking, smoking, taking drugs or spitting in the monastery premises is strictly prohibited. Moreover you need to take permission before taking photographs. And most importantly, in many Gompas, you are expected to walk around the premises only in a clockwise direction.
