Lake Pichola is surrounded by hills, palaces, temples and bathing ghats and is the largest among UdaipurтЂ™s lake. It has two large islands and some smaller ones. On one of these islands is located the picturesque palace Jag Mandir that creates a breathtaking mirage in the night. The splendid City Palace of Udaipur is located towards the east of the lake and provides a great backdrop to the lake.Maharana Jai Singh built the Fateh Sagar Lake but it is named after Fateh Singh who rebuilt its dam. Three small islands are constructed in Fateh Sagar Lake and the largest is named Nehru Park. It houses a popular garden with a restaurant and zoo. The second island is a public park with a jet fountain. The third island is also very popular as it is the address of the Udaipur Solar Observatory. The Saheliyon ki Bari Gardens, where the royal ladies strolled, are located nearby.
Other humbler lakes in Udaipur include Lake Swaroop Sagar and Lake Udai Sagar. The city has more to offer apart from the lakes.
